In Ancient World History, students will study the social, cultural, political, and economic life of the world’s major civilizations before the Renaissance. Students will spend time developing critical thinking, research, presentation, and writing skills as they explore various historical themes.

This is a survey course where students will explore the social, cultural, political, and economic life of the world’s major civilizations before the Renaissance. Students will develop critical thinking, research, presentation, and writing skills as they gain an understanding of the cause and effect nature of world history. Literature, art, music, primary, and secondary sources may be used to enhance students’ understanding of world issues.

World Geography is a study of the world’s major geographic and cultural regions. Students will explore the five themes of geography through classroom study, projects, and independent reading. This course involves the study of how people, places, and environments interact.

In modern World History, students will focus on the social, cultural, political, and economic life of humankind from the Renaissance to the present day. Students will continue their development of critical thinking, research, presentation, and writing skills as they explore modern historical issues.

This course is designed for the above average student. Modern World History is a survey course where students will study the social, cultural, political, and economic life of humankind from the Renaissance to the present day. Emphasis will be placed on the development of critical thinking, research, presentation, and writing skills through the use of primary sources, secondary sources, literature, art, and music.
 
Course: Contemporary Issues                        1 Term

Contemporary Issues is a social studies elective course designed to explore current events at the local, state, and national levels. Readings, seminars/discussions, guest speakers, and field trips will be used to help students focus on various social, cultural, political, and economic issues.

This course is a survey of United States History with a primary emphasis on Reconstruction to the present day. Students will explore the cause and effect relationship of history by examining the political, economic, and social aspects of American life.

Students will study the political, economic, and social aspects of American life from Reconstruction to the present day. Time will be spent analyzing and writing about literature, art, music, primary, and secondary sources as they relate to the American experience.

Course: AP United States History                  2 Terms

Additional Fee: Materials, AP exam fee
 
Extensive analysis of primary and secondary sources, as well as supplementary materials, will be essential to emphasize various conflicting historical perspectives. Emphasis is placed on the critical thinking and writing skills required to successfully complete the document-based and free-response questions on the Advanced Placement United States History examination. Students are expected to take the AP exam in May and may earn college credit. Students will receive a U.S. History credit and will take the Tennessee EOC. Students who are eligible for fee waivers with the school system may be eligible for a fee waiver on the AP exam through the AP Program. In order to help ensure timely graduation, students who are failing at the end of the first semester will be dropped and scheduled for US History for the second semester. 
  
Course: Leadership                                           1 Term

Prerequisite: Application only
 
This course is designed for rising juniors and seniors who have
demonstrated positive leadership skills and are interested in organizing and developing school and community service projects. Traditionally, student council officers and class presidents are asked to apply for this class as well as those students interested in displaying their leadership skills. Students must be willing to participate in activities held before and after school hours. Students who apply for this course in the spring must have a good attendance record and have no disciplinary actions against them. Applications are screened by a panel of teachers.
 
Course: Economics                                            9 weeks
Grade: 12                                                         1/2 Credit
Prerequisite: None
This is a nine week course which is paired with US Government, and is a requirement for graduation. Students will study how people, businesses, and governments choose to use their resources. Time will be devoted to comparing and contrasting various economic systems with an emphasis placed on the American free-enterprise system.

This is a nine week course which is paired with Economics, and is a requirement for graduation. Students will study the origins, structure, function, and powers of American government at the national, state, and local levels. Time will be devoted to helping students understand the rights and responsibilities of living in a democratic society.
