PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Course: Wellness 1 Term
Grades: 9, 10 ,11, 12 1 Credit
Prerequisite: None
This course includes physical fitness and the study of the human body, communicable and chronic diseases, emotional and social health, functions of the body, mental health, and the promotion of wellness through physical fitness. Wellness is required for graduation by the State Department of Education.
Students transferring into the Hamilton County School system, who have earned 1/2 credit in Physical Education and 1/2 credit in Health, may substitute these credits for the required Wellness credit.
Students may earn multiple credits in Physical Education, but not in Wellness.
Course: Physical Education I 1 Term
Grades: 9, 10, 11 1 Credit
Prerequisite: Wellness
This course will introduce the rules and strategies of individual and team activities with emphasis on improving overall physical fitness. Daily participation is necessary.
Course: Physical Education II (SSADP) 1 Term
Grades: 9,10, 11 1 Credit
Prerequisite: Wellness
The Sport Specific Athlete Development Program will engage students in sport specific training that will directly prepare student athletes for specific sports by mimicking biochemical movements of that sport as well as the metabolic demands found within the competitive platform. This program will demand high physical and mental exertion as well as cognitive recognition of the physiological musculature of the human body and its role in specific multi-joint movements.
