Note October 2008 PDF Print E-mail

Dear Students, Parents, and Community Members,

Another busy month has flown by as we move into fall on our spectacular campus!  As we speak, huge cranes are swinging roof supports into place.  Several areas are progressing rapidly, while others appear to be moving at a snail’s pace.  Our construction superintendent assures us that this is all part of the process.

I am excited to let you know that our month long pre-registration campaign was more successful than I had ever hoped it would be.  As of September 30th, we had over 800 students registered!  Even more exciting, since that time, we have received another 140 applications.  The student interest surveys are proving to be quite impressive also with the variety of choices students list.  Our top foreign languages are Spanish, French and German with a few asking for Chinese and Latin.  Top activities for Middle School students are Chess, “Storm Watch” news, drama, FCA, and spirit club with high numbers also selecting “Green Team”, web design, pottery, and Technology Student Association.   High school students selected other activities with the largest requests for band, chorus, art and pep squad.  Sports for all students showed our most popular to be football, soccer, basketball, track, wrestling, volleyball, and softball.  A big surprise for me was the number of students interested in a bowling team!  Our participation with other schools will be a new experience for us.  If you have not pre-registered your child, please do so as soon as possible.  It is important to pre-register because your child will be added to our lists for receiving information throughout the year and have a better chance at receiving his/her first choices in scheduling.  You may still download our form by clicking here and then either mail it to the address listed or drop it by Apison Elementary.  If you have questions or concerns, please contact me at 236-4322, ext 236.

October marks the beginning of our hiring season!  I can assure you East Hamilton will have a staff second to none.  The process will be a long one, but one of the most important for the success of our school.  Watch for announcements as staff members are finalized.  At this point, only internal candidates are eligible to apply.  External candidates may begin applying later this fall.  Our goal for hiring is to have the majority of all positions filled by January.

Our next big fundraising effort is “In Home Parties”!  I think you will find these to be quite entertaining and informative.  Our goal is to have 34 parties over the next few months.  What we need are people who will volunteer to host a party in their home.  If you are a host, you may invite neighbors and friends for anything from desserts to a full meal, it is your choice.  The parties can be held on weekend evenings or on Sunday afternoons, again, your choice.  Each party host will have a presenter attend who will have a short program that is highly visual and also be able to answer questions you or your guests may have.  All guests will be asked to donate either financially or with other donations, but there is no pressure to do so.  What we hope will happen with all the parties is the good news about our school, athletics, programs, and other information will be spread neighborhood to neighborhood.  I hope that you will get actively involved in the parties by either hosting or attending.  We need everyone’s help in order to meet our goals prior to our opening in August.  Although we have raised a lot of money, there is still a lot that needs to be done so that all of our children may benefit from East Hamilton.  If you would like to volunteer to host a party, please contact Chrissy Fletcher at 635-5415.  We need your help!!

And finally, Robert Brittingham and I have met with an artist from Minnesota who is assisting in the design of our school crest and different styles of logos for signs, letterhead, banners, athletic uniforms, and spirit clothing.  I think everyone will be extremely pleased when these are completed!  Watch for the designs coming to our website!

Until November,

Pam Dantzler
