             EQUIPMENT GRANT

We would like to thank the CFGC for their willingness to assist Hamilton County physical education departments in the struggle to keep our youth physically active.

Nearly 65 percent of Americans are overweight or obese. More than 80 percent of all children and adolescents eat too much total fat. Research shows that extra weight has been linked to an increased risk of heart disease, diabetes, arthritis and most types of cancer. Obesity is on track to become the largest killer of Americans. According to several studies, there is a definite correlation between overweight students and poor school performance. Sedentary lifestyles are blamed for much of the crisis. Only 26 percent of the U.S. population gets the recommended 30 minutes of physical activity most days of the week and nearly 28 percent are inactive. Another 46 percent get inadequate amounts of activity.

East Hamilton middle school physical education teachers, Teresa Brannon and Ryan Cooper will be purchasing equipment with this greatly appreciated CFGC grant money to promote physical fitness/activity through their physical education classes and facilitate combating inactive lifestyles and obesity in our youth.

Coach Brannon and Coach Cooper will implement fitness activities with the equipment purchased and educate the students about the importance of living an active lifestyle in hopes for a longer, healthier life.

THANK YOU, Nancy Reed and CFGC for your contribution to our physical education programs.
